The story
A Telegram bot that does not feel like a bot. It runs on Google's Gemini, but the point is not the model: it is the rhythm. It answers the way people text, in several short messages, with a typing pause before each one.
- characters per second, the typing speed it pretends to have
- 15
- random variation on every pause, so it is never the same twice
- 20%
- longest pause before a message
- 4 s
Texting, not answering
A normal bot sends one block of text, instantly. People don't: they send a few short lines, and you see "typing…" before each one. So the system prompt asks the model to write a thought as separate lines, and the bot turns every line into its own message, each preceded by a pause as long as it would take a fast typer to write it.
- 1
Listen
It answers in private chats, and in groups when someone mentions it.
- 2
Think
The conversation so far, kept per chat, goes to Gemini 2.0 Flash, or any model you set, together with a system prompt you can rewrite.
- 3
Split
The answer is cut at every line break: each line will be a message of its own.
- 4
Type
For each one it shows "typing…", waits the length of the line at 15 characters a second, give or take 20% and never more than 4 seconds, and sends it.
Where Bea started
This bot and the Instagram one are where Bea started: the first version of the persona that later became ProjectBEA.
